The National League System is the league structure for senior men’s football that sits directly below the Football League, League Two. It stretches from the Football Conference Premier Division at Step 1 through to County Leagues at Step 7.
In total 59 leagues featuring a total of 84 divisions across the country provide a feeder system through to the Football League. The National League System aims to provide clubs with a level of competition appropriate to their playing ability, stadium/ground facilities, economic means and geographical location. The National League system also provides for the seasonal movement of clubs and provides a clear pathway from Step 7 through to the Football League.
The Women’s Pyramid provides the league structure for the Senior Women’s game, from the Women’s Premier League at Step 1 through to County Leagues at Step 6. New teams must enter the Pyramid at Step 6 and there are Regulations in place for promotion and relegation between each Step, to ensure it is fair and equitable across the country. Ground Grading criteria also applies in the Women’s Pyramid of Football from Step 1 to Step 4 to prepare clubs for promotion through to the higher levels of the women’s game.
