England’s Women are one just win away from a place at next summer’s European Championship.
Three points against Croatia, who they defeated 6-0 in March
, will secure a spot at Sweden 2013, and National Coach Hope Powell
believes her side’s preparations should stand them in good stead in Walsall.
Over the last five days, England have been enjoying the first class facilities on offer at St George’s Park, the new National Football Centre, and Powell has been impressed with what she has seen from her charges.
She said: “[Croatia] were tough opposition [in March].
“They made it very, very difficult. But if I look at this week and the application from the players, I’m sure if they execute the things we’ve done in training then we’ll be fine. They know what’s at stake.
“We have spoken about the dangers [of] the teams you’re supposed to beat often being your downfall so they are well aware of it. Three points gets us to Sweden and that’s what we are going to aim for.”
Right-back Alex Scott
concurs with Powell and warned her team-mates against complacency.
She said: “We have to erase that 6-0. Coming here, we don’t know what they are going to do. Over there they brought the game to us which opened up a lot of space. But they could sit back [in Walsall] and get behind the ball.
“It’s a must [win] for us. We need the three points to qualify.”
Meanwhile, striker Eniola Aluko
was full of praise for England’s new training base.
Aluko beamed: “The facilities at St George’s Park have been amazing.
“The pitch has been great and it has been lively. We’ve had all the preparation we need to go into the game and do the job."
