Paul Fairclough names his 16 players for Latvia game in September
Latvia U23s v England C
5pm BST, Tuesday 10 September 2013
England C boss Paul Fairclough has named an experimental squad to face Latvia U23s next month.
Only hat-trick hero James Norwood and goalkeeper Mitchell Walker retain their place from the 6-1 win over Bermuda in June.
The Latvia match will provide Fairclough with an opportunity to assess his pool of players ahead of next year’s International Challenge Trophy (ICT) fixtures against Slovakia, Turkey and Estonia.
The England C team is made up of non-League players aged 23 and under.
Fairclough said: “While it does appear to be a long wait until the Slovakia match, this does give me the opportunity to look at a number of new faces and I will be taking 12 new players to Latvia.
“We also have a home friendly in November against the Czech Republic U21 side which will be another tough test.
“By the time we get to the March friendly I will have a good idea of who will form the basis of the squad going into what will be three very competitive ICT matches.
“We beat Estonia 1-0 a couple of years ago and we have a score to settle with Turkey after our semi-final loss in February.
“The opening fixture in Slovakia will be interesting as it will be the first meeting between the sides in this competition.”
