Gary Cahill speaks to FATV about Maracana magic and South American experience
By Nicholas Veevers
Gary Cahill reflected on a ‘good result and an amazing experience’ in Brazil with the England squad.
The Chelsea defender was part of the Three Lions side which played in the opening game at the new Maracana Stadium on Sunday.
And Cahill says the four-day trip to South America and a 2-2 draw with Brazil in their own back-yard was a good way to end the campaign.
He told FATV: "It's been an amazing stadium to play in and it's been a great experience for us all.
“So we go away to rest up now on a high.”
After a first half which saw Brazil cause the Three Lions no end of problems but fail to beat man-of-the-match Joe Hart, it was a different game after the break.
And Cahill feels Roy Hodgson’s men could consider themselves unfortunate not to have left the Maracana with a memorable win.
"It was difficult but we knew that coming into the game,” he added.
"It wasn't just the opposition, who were top class, but the conditions and everything else we had to contend with.
"In the first half, we stuck in there and dug deep and then we came into the game a bit and we were unlucky not to win in the end.
"Nevertheless, it's a good result for us.”
