Joe Hart praises Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after youngster's cameo in Brazil
Brazil 2-2 England
8pm BST, Sunday 2 June 2013
Joe Hart paid tribute to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for the way he inspired the Three Lions to a 2-2 draw in Brazil, but says a lot of hard work was done by the defence to make it possible, too.
The England goalkeeper, who made a series of outstanding saves in a first half in which Brazil were often on top in Rio, was delighted to see his side go 2-1 ahead after the break with Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wayne Rooney on target.
Hart said: "Alex came on at a good time.
"I think 'The Ox' will appreciate we did a lot of hard work for a player like him to come on. But he ripped it up.
"You talk about the Brazil players - there was a lot of focus on them - but The Ox came on at 19 [years old] and smashed us back in the game - you can't ask for much more.
"Then Wayne Rooney - brilliant. There was a bit of spin-a-Rooney on it from the table-tennis I think! There was a deflection, but hey, we'll take that!
"It wasn't how we wanted to play first half. But we dug deep."
