On Saturday, as England prepare to take on USA, over 300 amateur football teams of all ages and abilities will be answering Fabio Capello’s rallying call to get behind England by hosting England Football Day festivals.
The showcase England Football Day event will take place here at Wembley where kids from teams across the UK have won a once in a lifetime opportunity to play on the pitch and be trained by The FA’s leading coaches.
Around 30 members of staff have also been able to nominate children to take part in the event following the recent opportunity posted here on the intranet.
The FA’s England Football Day campaign is supported by Capello and his England team and is part of The FA’s drive to encourage people to get into football by becoming a coach, signing up to join a team or simply offering to volunteer at their local club.
Fabio Capello, England Coach said: "We know the whole of England will be behind us today when we play our first game in the World Cup. Football means a lot to the people of England and England Football Day is your chance to celebrate that. It is a great opportunity for players, children and families to get involved in football and inspire a new generation."
Open to everyone, England Football Day has captured the imagination of clubs up and down the country from Alnwick in Northumberland to Helston in Cornwall.
Those joining in the fun will be throwing their doors open and enjoying the pre-match build up by organising a range of events from 5 a side World Cup tournaments and taster coaching sessions to fundraising barbeques, penalty shoot out competitions or simply opening up the clubhouse to enjoy the game together.
