Wayne Rooney says that England's 4-0 victory over Slovakia was a great way to prepare for their vital World Cup qualifier against Ukraine on Wednesday.
The Manchester United striker scored twice in a man-of-the-match performance as England romped to a 4-0 victory over Slovakia on Saturday. There were also goals for Emile Heskey and Frank Lampard at Wembley.
But the victory also saw injuries to Rooney's fellow strikers Heskey, Carlton Cole and Peter Crouch and the 23-year-old may now have to lead the line against Ukraine on his own.
He said: "We played very well today in the first half hour we were excellent and could have scored more goals.
"It was ideal preparation for Wednesday and it will be tough game against a good side in Ukraine."
Rooney, whose brace was his third in three consecutive games for The Three Lions, added: "It is sad we had two injuries and hopefully they will be okay for Wednesday's game.
"I've no problem playing up front on my own if required - I've done it before and I'm happy to do it.
"The manager's set up seems to suit me well and I'm delighted to be scoring goals for England.
"There was a good atmosphere tonight and it's pleasing to put on such a great performance for the fans." The Teams
