As England prepare for a quarter final with America, Casey Stoney doesn't want to the dream experience to stop. |
Casey Stoney says that England are ready to take on America, with confidence amongst the players high after three impressive performances in the group stage.
Having performed so well against reigning champions Germany, Stoney says that England will not be lacking belief when they line up against Greg Ryan's USA in Tianjin.
Stoney told TheFA.com: "We're quietly confident, America are a good side - they wouldn't be number one in the world if they weren't.
"But we go into the game full of confidence knowing that we're playing well, knowing that we have another gear left in us to go up to, and hopefully we can get the result we really, really want."
Chelsea defender Stoney feels that England have proved a lot of people wrong simply by qualifying from Group A, and is determined to keep proving wrong in the quarter finals.
"We're ecstatic with our performances through the group stage, no one expected us to get this far and I think we have proved a lot of people wrong.
"Obviously we were over the moon to beat Argentina, but now we're focused on America.
"On Monday we played really well, we expressed ourselves and created a lot chances and I think we were unlucky not to score a few more goals."
Stoney is one of five England players who have played in every minute of their World Cup games so far, but remains typically modest about her own performances.
I'm reasonably happy with my performance so far, but there's always things you can do better and I'll analyse that and maximise it on Saturday."
Playing in a World Cup is something that Stoney has dreamed about for as long as she can remember, and while she is living out her dreams she is determined to make them last as long as possible.
"I've played in quite a few Cup finals having played for Charlton and Arsenal, but they can't compare to this," Stoney explains.
"This is the biggest thing; this is something you dream about as a little girl. I'm playing my dreams now and it's absolutely fantastic.
"We're in the quarter finals so we're massively excited about that. Everyone misses home but we we're excited about being here and we want to stay here."
