After making her first competitive start for England, Jill Scott told TheFA.com that playing at a World Cup for England is 'like a dream come true'.

The elegant midfielder from the North East came on as a substitute against Japan, before playing the entire 90 minutes as England stifled the World Champions Germany in Shanghai, and Scott still can't believe what's happening.

"It's amazing; a dream come true," Scott revealed.

"I don't think it's really sunk in yet, and maybe all the girls are still feeling that way, but we all know we have a job to do and it's not over yet.

"The team spirit has been excellent, everybody gets on and everybody seems to be enjoying it which is good."

Her appearance on Friday evening was the third time that Scott has come up against Germany in just short of 12 months, and the Everton midfielder says that the Three Lions have come a long way in a very short time.

"I was lucky enough to be involved in October last year, it was one of the first games I played for England and we got beat 5-1 so it wasn't a great result.

"We felt we did alright in parts of it, and then we drew 0-0 with them in the China Cup so there was obviously a massive improvement there.

"But to draw with them in the World Cup, when there's no excuses, that was really pleasing."

Looking ahead to the final game in Group A, Scott understands just how painful it would be to go out having played so well against the reigning champions, and is determined not to let that happen.

"I think everybody knows that if we don't get anything from Argentina, anything less than a win, and the performance against Germany won't count for anything. The whole team is very determined, and we just can't wait to play them now.

"No one wants to come home, everyone wants to stay here for the duration of the tournament."
