Sven-Goran Eriksson was delighted after England warmed up for their World Cup opener against Paraguay next Saturday with a thumping 6-0 win against Jamaica.

In his final game in England as the Three Lions Head Coach, Sven paid special tribute to hat-trick hero Peter Crouch and said the Liverpool striker is likely to start against Paraguay.

Sven said: “It was a very good performance and there were a lot of positive things. A good performance, six goals and a clean sheet – we should all be happy.

“I think Peter Crouch shall start next Saturday and I think he deserves it. It will be difficult to leave him out, that’s for sure.

“It is one week before the World Cup starts so you are not always tackling at 100% in a game like this but I think it was a very good game and I am sure the fans liked it.

“I think the chances of winning the World Cup are very, very good, I have always said that and I still believe that.

“We have the best fans in the world and I want to say thank you very much to them.”

Sven also played down fears over the fitness of left back Ashley Cole and centre back John Terry after the pair both went off in the first half with minor injuries, and said right back Gary Neville is close to full fitness after missing the Old Trafford clash.

Sven added: “There are small problems with John Terry and Ashley Cole but I hope they will both be fit for next Saturday. Ashley will have a scan but we don’t think it is a big problem. Gary Neville starts full training on Monday and hopefully everything will be OK."

On Rooney, Sven revealed: “Wayne Rooney kicked a ball yesterday and that is very good news. We will know much more on Wednesday when he has the scan.”
