England v Portugal
Saturday 01 July 2006
World Cup, Quarter-Final
Veltins-Arena, Gelsenkirchen
4pm kick off (London Time)
Pauleta, the Portugal and Paris St Germain forward, is expecting a tough encounter with England in Saturday's World Cup quarter-final.
Pauleta, who scored in Portugal’s opening group game against Angola, is hopeful of adding to his tally in Gelsenkirchen and reported that the mood in the Portugal camp is upbeat ahead of the crunch clash.
"The game will be very equal and open and it will be decided by who keeps their nerve better.
"I expect the England match to be equally as hard or a more intense match even than our last game against Holland because we are playing for a place in the Semi Final of the World Cup."
Pauleta and his fellow team-mates have also been tapping into the experience of Chelsea defenders Ricardo Carvalho and Paulo Ferreira and Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo.
He added: "It is good to have team-mates at Portugal who play in the Premier League because they can tell us important details about the opposition.
"I already know about England's defence, what the strengths are and what the weaknesses are."
Pauleta remains confident that Portugal can defeat England and that he can get on the scoresheet. "I do not see anything inferior about Portugal compared to England.
"Personally, I have been in good form in this World Cup but I could raise my tally with another goal. Anyhow, I hope to do it against the English."
