Steve travelled to Frankfurt with Andrew Flintoff to watch England beat Paraguay.
Wednesday, 14 June 2006.
England fast bowler Steve Harmison took time out from his preparations for the upcoming Natwest Series with Sri Lanka to talk exclusively to TheFA.com.
The former world number one bowler, who helped England regain the Ashes last summer, was in the crowd with Freddie Flintoff for England's 1-0 win over Paraguay.
Here's what he thought on that game as well as England's hopes, the World Cup and the burden of public expectation...
What a great day!
We had it in mind to go to a game, this was the only game we could go to.
The atmosphere in Frankfurt was brilliant. We got there on Saturday morning and drove through Frankfurt and saw what all the England fans were doing. They were magnificent, although you would expect nothing less from a set of England supporters.
It was a great occasion - hopefully we will see a few more of them in the next few weeks.
I thought we played quite well until the sun came out, but I think the players knew it was comfortable in the second half. Paraguay were pretty poor, but we just did what we had to do in the second half. We were never in any trouble.
We are there to win the World Cup, it's all about results, and we got the result.
It was difficult to pick a man of the match, but I would go for Joe Cole - he had a decent game. I felt sorry for Michael Owen though, he did not get the service. But like all great strikers, he will bounce back.
It's going to be difficult for us to win the World Cup as we could meet Brazil in the semi finals, if we get there. Brazil are the best team, but if you took them out, we are as good as anyone else. We are going to need a lot of luck though.
The expectation on the England team is huge. When we won the Ashes last year, the public support spurred us on.
We sat there in the stand on Saturday 20 minutes before kick-off and could see the support building up - we experienced the same thing last year.
Whenever the crowd got behind us, the group of lads who won the Ashes all seemed to feel it and lift themselves.
Hopefully the country will continue to get behind England and that will spur them on to win the World Cup.
