Sven: Becks is razor-sharp
By Ben Hunt. Tuesday, 06 June 2006.
Sven-Goran Eriksson insists David Beckham is looking razor-sharp in training and has no doubts about his fitness ahead of the World Cup opener against Paraguay at the weekend.
The England skipper suffered a minor injury to his ankle in the 6-0 win over Jamaica at Old Trafford last Saturday, but the England Head Coach assured fans by saying Beckham is in fine form.
He said: "David had a slight knock on his ankle in the last game but it is not a major problem and he will be joining us on the pitch for training tomorrow.
"He has been on fire in training and his right foot is in good condition. I am sure if you ask him, he'd say this is the best England squad he has ever been a part of."
Eriksson admits that he is being gripped by World Cup fever and says he cannot wait to face Paraguay on Saturday.
He added: "The World Cup is close now and the feeling when we arrived in Germany was perfect. I have been looking forward to this for two years since we lost in Portugal.
"We know we have a good team and there is pressure on us to do well, but I like that pressure and I am extremely happy with the way everything has gone."
