Frank Lampard says he wants to remain England's penalty taker despite missing from the spot against Hungary on Tuesday night.

The midfielder saw his spot kick saved by Gabor Kiraly, but he will not shirk the responsibility if the Three Lions get another penalty in the friendly against Jamaica this Saturday or during the World Cup.

And Lampard feels his failure to convert from 12 yards against Hungary could ultimately prove to be a blessing in disguise.

"I will still be the penalty taker. When you take penalties you know that maybe you might miss one and I think it takes a strong-minded person to do it," Lampard explained.

"We can all miss penalties and I guess I was fortunate that I missed in a match we went on to win and that it was not a qualifying game.

"But it was maybe a reminder to me that I need to stick them away when they really matter.

"It's important that the person taking the penalties really wants to do it, especially at the top level with all the pressure that comes with it.

"I've been taking them for a long time with Chelsea and I've taken a couple for England and I usually practice a couple of times a week.

"But maybe I have neglected that in the past few weeks because I have been concentrating on fitness and tactical training.

"But I will make sure I practice penalties more frequently now."
