David Beckham can’t wait to get England’s World Cup campaign going after the 6-0 thrashing of Jamaica.
The England Skipper was delighted with Three Lions' performance at Old Trafford in his side’s final match before the competitive action begins in Germany next week.
Beckham revealed: “We just want to get out there now as it has been a long preparation and a long wait. We want to now prepare for the real games.
“We played very well against Jamaica and played some good football. We started well, got the early goal and we went on from there. The players worked hard and that is what we needed.
“We are in good shape. A couple of players came off as a precaution but none of them are anything to worry about and we are all fit and ready to go.
“Hopefully this will be our year. It is what we are hoping and dreaming for but it can only happen if we work hard and play well.”
Becks hailed striker Peter Crouch, who hit his first England hat-trick in the win. He said: “We are all pleased for Peter as the last time he came to Old Trafford people were booing him but he is a cult hero now and the contrast is amazing. He deserves it as he is a great player, a great lad and a great goalscorer.”
The England Captain also had kind words for Crouch’s strike partner Michael Owen, who scored his first international goal this year as he continues to improve his fitness level.
Beckham said: “Apart from his goal, Michael’s movement was sharp. He doesn’t need to prove what a great goalscorer he is as he has done that for years but that goal will lift his confidence.”
