Portsmouth v Bristol Academy: Highlights

Watch the action from a ten-goal thriller that needed extra-time and penalties to separate Portsmouth and Bristol.

Suspense and drama were not just confined to The FA Cup this weekend, as 67 goals were scored in fourteen FA Women's Cup ties yesterday.

In the only outstanding Third Round tie, Bristol City beat Reading Royals 4-2 and will now face holders Charlton Athletic.

Helen Bleazard put the Robins a goal ahead with a third minute penalty and notched a second ten minutes later. Kirsty Richardson (left) made it 3-0 with a stinging drive and Heidi Bevan added a fourth with 22 minutes left.

Barnet pulled off the major upset at Manchester City as they returned south with a place in the Fifth Round draw thanks to goals from Charlotte Herson and Stacey Sowden.

In TheFA.com featured game there were 10 goals, with Portsmouth losing out on penalties to Bristol Academy. Pompey led by two goals, through Cassie Thorp and Charley Wilson but goals from Katy Ward and Corinne Yorston saw the visitors take the tie into extra-time.

A Jenna Hopkins hat-trick looked to have sealed Bristol’s win, only for Pompey to come back through Wilson and a brace from Zoe Nash. When it came to penalties, England ‘keeper Siobhan Chamberlain made two saves to finally knock the Southern Divison high-flyers out.

Leeds United won the only all-National Division tie. Goals from Julie Twaddle and Karen Walker knocked out Doncaster Rovers Belles, who netted through Alex Culvin.

Julie Fleeting gave Arsenal the lead in Cardiff but had a scare when Loren Dykes equalised. Fleeting scored her second early in the second-half, with Faye White and Rachel Yankey also getting on the score sheet to secure a 4-1 win.

Michelle Evans celebrated her call-up to the Senior England squad this week with a goal, as Everton overcame the challenge of Northern Division side Nottingham Forest 2-0. Jody Handley opened the scoring on 18 minutes with Evans finishing from close range fifteen minutes later after a swift counter-attack.

Dunia Susie scored a hat-trick as Fulham crushed Southampton Saints 6-0. Michaela Howells, Justine Lorton and Bonnie Horwood were also on the scoresheet, whilst National Division side Chelsea required an extra-time winner from England U17 striker Ellen White (left) to beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 after extra time.

Birmingham City travelled to Ipswich Town and won 7-0. Five up at half-time, Maz Ballard ended with a hat-trick, whilst Karen Carney, Laura Bassett, Sally Lacey and Kirsty Robson also bagged a goal.

Superior finishing proved decisive as Watford Ladies eased their way into the FA Women's Cup Fifth Round with a 3-1 victory at Kingsmeadow against AFC Wimbledon.

The visitors went ahead through leading scorer in the country Helen Lander on six minutes. Despite dominating possession, The Dons were made to pay in the 44th minute when Watford extended their lead in a rare attack, O'Toole bundling home a corner.

AFC Wimbledon reduced the arrears after 58 minutes through Laura Smith but Hall confirmed victory for Watford with a 40-yard free kick into the top corner in the 88th minute.

Aston Villa required extra-time to eliminate Northern Combination leaders Leeds City Vixens 5-4 after extra-time, whilst a Gill Hart goal was enough for Northern Division leaders Liverpool to see off the challenge of Colchester United.

Stockport County are also through to the Fifth Round after a thumping 7-1 victory against Frome Town, using their third generation home pitch to good advantage, and seeing off the challenge of the Somerset side.

The games between Sunderland and Curzon Ashton and Newcastle United and Northampton Town both fell victims to the weather, and the sides will try again on Sunday 15 January.
