Cardiff 0-4 Arsenal
First Round
Sunday 7 October 2007

Arsenal began their defence of the trophy with a convincing away win and enjoyed the long journey home after a comfortable win over Cardiff.

England quartet Karen Carney, Katie Chapman, Rachel Yankey and Lianne Sanderson were all on the scoresheet for Vic Akers' side as they negotiated the tricky visit to Cardiff with ease.

Coming just a two weeks after the majority of Arsenal's squad returned from the World Cup in China, where England had reached the quarter-finals, it had been anticipated that the game would be a test for the players to switch their focus to domestic matters.

There was no such problems however as Arsenal returned to their winning ways from the previous season and made it to the Second Round.
Newquay 1-11 Arsenal
Second Round
Sunday 21 October 2007

Arsenal faced another away trip but once again they were in flying form, this time racking up double figures in a one-sided encounter. The match did not start in such fashion however, as Newquay, who were in second place in the Southern Division put up a good fight in the first 20 minutes.

Newquay put a lot of pressure on the Gunners and prevented them from playing the fluent football they are used to. Rachel Yankey and Jayne Ludlow finally broke the deadlock after 20 minutes, but Newquay never gave up and got their reward minutes after.

Arsenal seemed to settle into the game after this and Ludlow and Sanderson scored making it 4-1 as the half time whistle blew.

Arsenal’s experience showed in the second half and they created many chances. Yankey completed her hat trick, Sanderson grabbed four goals and Faye Marsh and Lizzie Wicks came on and scored their first goals at senior level.

Arsenal 3-1 Chelsea
Third Round
Sunday 4 November 2007

Arsenal beat Chelsea for the second time during the season, a 3-1 which earned the Gunners a place in the semi-finals, but it was there toughest tie of the competition as a determined young Chelsea side ran the Gunners close in a frantic encounter.

Karen Carney timed her goal perfectly as she opened the scoring just minutes before the interval, and despite some fine attacking play from Chelsea it looked as though Arsenal would go on to further their lead.

But defiant defending, epitomised by Casey Stoney, helped Chelsea ride the storm and they levelled the scores on the hour mark through an unlikely source.Eniola Aluko powered a shot at the Arsenal goal, and the effort deflected off Faye White and into the net to give Chelsea hope.

That hope was dashed in the final 12 minutes as Jayne Ludlow restored the lead and Lianne Sanderson made sure six minutes later.

Arsenal 4-0 Liverpool
Semi-Final
Sunday 16 December 2007

Arsenal made sure they were back in The Final for a third successive season as they made light work of the semi-final with their second 4-0 win over Liverpool this season.

Wales captain Jayne Ludlow gave the Gunners an eighth-minute lead, then three minutes before half-time England striker Lianne Sanderson doubled the advantage with her 21st goal of the season.

England winger Rachel Yankey added the third goal in the 68th minute and Republic of Ireland defender Yvonne Tracey completed the scoring six minutes from time.

Arsenal have won their previous four finals (two FA Women's Cup Finals, UEFA Women's Cup and FA Women's Premier League Cup) can they make it five against Everton tonight?
