After finally breaking the Southern Division side down, Jo Potter made it 3-0, with Eniola Aluko adding a late brace.

Fulham let slip a 3-0 advantage, before going out of the competition on penalties to Southern Division Millwall after the game finished 4-4 after extra-time. Northern Division Lincoln City eliminated top-flight Sunderland too; a Jodie Snelson brace was sufficient, with just a Karen Hutchinson reply early in the second-half from the North East side.

Birmingham City beat Premier Northern Division side Stockport County LFC, even though they were forced to play with only 10 players for the last half an hour of the match.

Kerrie Manley, making her first start for the Blues, had to come off in the second half after a nasty collision left her with a suspected cracked bone in her nose. The collision occurred just after manager Mickey Moore had made a triple substitution.

Maz Ballard gave the Blues the lead after great build-up play involving Penny Andrea and Becky Hall.

The second half saw Stockport start with much more attacking verve. Krystie Johnson’s shot from 20 yards beat Birmingham’s goal keeper Sue Wood, but instead of rippling the net, her shot crashed against the cross bar.

Birmingham seemed to react to the threat when Precious Hamilton doubled the lead, after Ballard and Hall had again been involved.

At 2-0, and sailing, Stockport were awarded a highly controversial penalty when Nicola Doig was adjudged to have been pushed by Blues ‘keeper Sue Wood. Jane Fox converted the penalty and made it 2-1 to set up a tense

finale, but it is the National Division side who progressed.

Leeds United scored twice in each half to defeat Cardiff City, 4-0. Karen Burke opened the scoring with a penalty, Jess Wright and Sue Smith were also on target before a second Burke spot-kick.

Bristol Academy top-scored, crushing AFC Wimbledon 8-1, with a debut hat-trick from Kerry Bartlett. Justine Lorton and Kayleigh Greening added a brace each, with Shelley Cox their other scorer and Abbey Shorter netting for the Dons.

Chelsea accounted for Watford 5-1, with Jodian Clarke leading the way with a hat-trick. Lizzie Edwards and Ellen White also hit the Hornets' net, who replied through Bianca Hedgecock.

Everton took an early lead against Crystal Palace, when Laura East put through her own goal. Fara Williams, Emily Westwood and Jody Handley followed up with a goal apiece for a 4-0 result.

Depleted Wolves struggled against a strong Blackburn side who took advantage of their experience to record a 6-0 win over the visitors. Blackburn made the breakthrough on 39 minutes with a deflected goal from Sarah McCrea. Immediately after that Blackburn came forward again, with Katie Anderton slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the net to send them in 2-0 up at half time.

Crewe Alexandra continued their fine early season form with a 5-3 win over Tranmere Rovers. After going a goal behind, the Alex cruised into a 4-1 lead but two goals in five minutes almost sparked a late fightback from Rovers.

Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Barnet and West Ham are the other sides through to the Second Round. Arsenal and Doncaster Rovers Belles will play their First Round game after The Gunners return from European action this week.
