Having secured their Premier League status with victory last month, Birmingham followed it up with a competitive draw at home to fourth placed Bristol Academy.
The hard-earned point for the Blues sees them leapfrog Liverpool on goal difference to take ninth spot, while the draw means that Watford will have to beat both Everton and Leeds if they are to snatch fourth place from Bristol.
It was Academy, playing their final game of an impressive season, who took the lead with a fine finish from Kerry Bartlett. Going through on goal after just 12 minutes, Bartlett showed composure to lift the ball over the onrushing 'keeper.
Birmingham were determined to end the season on a high, and they had chances to level the scores before Amy McCann hit a typical poachers goal with just 15 minutes remaining on the clock.
