Bristol Academy continued their fine form in The FA Women's Premier League with an hard-fought victory over rivals Watford, that saw them cement their position behind Arsenal in the table.

Justine Lorton hung in the air to head home an inswinging corner and give Bristol the lead in the first period. Watford were unbowed and did their utmost to level the scores, Helen Lander raced through before shooting narrowly wide.

In the second-half Watford increased the pressure as the rain started to pour down, and Emma Beckett had an opportunity to equalise with a header but misdirected her effort.

The game was made safe by Cheryl Williams with just three minutes on the clock, as she latched onto a through ball and rifled the ball into the net to secure the points for the home side.
