Watford survived an almighty scare to take the spoils from the visit of Doncaster Rovers Belles, having led 4-1 at half-time the newly promoted outfit clung on to win by a single goal margin.

Liz Hansen had given the visitors a deserved lead after ten minutes with a sublime lob, but Watford hit back quickly to put themselves in the box seat.

Emma Thomas put the Hornets on level terms less than ten minutes later before a five minute spell effectively put them out of sight in the contest.

Ashlee Hincks scored a penalty, Helen Lander struck before a Hayley Kemp header gave them a three-goal lead at the interval - but Doncaster refused to give up hope and came out firing in the second period.

Vicky Exley drove home a powerful goal, then Sarah Owens made it an interesting final few minutes of the game. Just seconds remained when Doncaster went close to securing a famous comeback, but the free kick went narrowly wide.
