FAWPL: Leeds United 5-2 Blackburn Rovers

Two goals from Lucy Ward and one from Alex Culvin, Karen Burke and Rachel McArthur gave Leeds a fine victory over Blackburn.

Sue Smith revealed her ambition of pushing Arsenal as close as possible this season, as her side Leeds United scored an impressive victory over Blackburn Rovers.

After being central to Leeds' attacking play at Garforth on Sunday, Sue said that chasing Arsenal is their aim this season - especially after the disappointment of losing The FA Women's Cup Final to them last season.

Sue said: "Definitely, we'd love to put some pressure on Arsenal. Obviously last season we were pleased to get to the Final but then they hammered us unfortunately, which wasn't the best for us.

"We're just working really hard and anything could happen."

Sue also remarked that she is eager to get off the mark sooner rather than later, after starting the season well with a number of goals.

"I started off quite well this season scoring goals, then the goal drought set in quite quickly. As long as the team is winning it's not really a problem, but I need to score soon from a personal point of view."

Elsewhere Lianne Sanderson hit a hat-trick as Arsenal beat Sunderland 6-0 to maintain a two-point lead at the top of the Women's Premier League.

Second-placed Charlton Athletic, who have played a game more than the Gunners, kept pace with a 3-0 win against Doncaster Rovers Belles. Eniola Aluko and Casey Stoney put Charlton on the road to victory, striker Aluko scoring in the 29th minute and defender Stoney six minutes later.
Substitute Natasha Dowie wrapped up a comfortable win for the Addicks, the young striker netting in the 67th minute.

Bristol Academy beat Birmingham City 2-1 to leapfrog them into fourth, Justine Lorton headed Bristol into a 15th minute lead but the Blues took only five minutes to level the scores through England Under-21 striker Becky Hall.

Just after the half-hour though, striker Kerry Bartlett scored what proved to be the winner with her fifth goal in three League games. Chelsea beat Cardiff City to go sixth. Three goals in the first 16 minutes, two by Jodian Clarke and the third by Dunia Susi, were enough to give Chelsea victory.
