Andy McNally’s side remain six points clear at the top of the Northern Division thanks to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Aston Villa in what he described as "the best performance of the season."

Rovers opened the scoring on just two minutes when a cross from the left dropped invitingly for Anderton, who fired the ball into the back of the net.

The home side doubled their advantage six minutes after the break when a short corner was played out to Katie Brusell on the edge of the box and with the Villa defence caught out, the 18-year-old dropped her shoulder, before firing Rovers further in front.

And on 64 minutes, Rovers wrapped up their fourth league victory in succession. After outsmarting several Villa defenders, Anderton beat the keeper at her near post for her 26th goal of the campaign.

Coach McNally said: “I’m obviously very happy with the result as everyone at the club just wants to keep on winning.

“We played really well, probably our best performance of the season in fact, so it’s nice to enter this stage of the season with all the players in top form.

“Three years ago we were a mid-table team in the division below, so we are well ahead of schedule in terms of our long-term plan.”
