Double winners Arsenal face a trip to old foes Doncaster Rovers Belles on the opening day of the women’s football season as they look to retain their National Division crown.
The FA Nationwide Premier League kicks-off on August 15th promising the most entertaining ever season.
Arsenal won the National Division on the last day of the season in a three-way battle for the Championship, which could have gone either Charlton Athletic or Fulham’s way depending on the result of the fixture; Arsenal beat Fulham 1-0 in front of a crowd of 5,000 at Highbury to take their sixth title in 11 years.
Arsenal will clash with Charlton yet again in their first home match of the season on August 22nd. Arsenal beat the Addicks 3-0 in May’s FA Women’s Cup Final and will meet them at Stevenage Borough FC on Wednesday 11th August at 7.30pm to contest The FA Women’s Community Shield, in partnership with Nationwide.
Birmingham City, who are managed by QPR defender Marcus Bignot, have an away trip to newly promoted Bristol City on opening day. The Blues have made several top name signings over the summer including the league’s top goalscorer for the last two years Amanda Barr, formerly of Charlton Athletic.
There will be two derby clashes on Wednesday September 15th as Bristol City meet Rovers at home, while newly-promoted Liverpool visit Everton.
With several transfers taking place over the last few weeks, including the move of ex-England captain Karen Walker to join up with her former manager Julie Chipchase at Leeds United after over 15 years at Doncaster Rovers Belles, there looks set to be a tight promotion battle once again this season.
