The 4th annual FA Women's Football Awards took place on Friday at the Grosvenor House Hotel with Marieanne Spacey the big winner on the night. The former England striker, who is to decide in the summer whether to retire from the game, picked up awards for the AXA National Division Top Scorer, AXA Players' Player Of The Year and the Sport Relief Special Achievement Award.

Arsenal forward Spacey was honoured by the plaudits of her fellow players and respected individuals throughout the game. She has enjoyed a long and fruitful career, picking up the latest of her medals earlier this month when Arsenal lifted the National Division championship.

Katie Chapman, the Fulham midfielder, was rewarded for her fine form in helping England to reach the World Cup play-offs with the Nationwide International Player Of The Year Award. One of her England team-mates Fara Williams took the Umbro Young Player Of The Year Award; the Charlton Athletic midfielder is in good company as Chapman took the honour last season.

The England Women's team, which recently drew a record crowd of 14,000 to an international fixture, was present at the Awards Lunch along with 400 guests, including players from every team in the AXA FA Premier League. Ray Stubbs presented the ceremony, which featured 13 awards.

The ceremony was a fitting end to a momentous season which has seen several key achievements for Women's Football, including becoming the top female sport, increased media exposure and attracting a record 2.5 million viewers to BBC1's live coverage of the AXA FA Women's Cup Final.
