On the 23 June around 100 girls aged from five to fifteen took part in Fun Football Coaching at Staffordshire FA Charter Standard Community Club, Stone Dominoes FC.
The night was a partnership between Staffordshire FA, Stone Outward Division Girlguiding and Stone Dominoes FC aiming to give girls an introduction to football.
Rainbows, Brownies and Guides from across Stone attended the event and took part in fun football sessions and games organised by FA qualified staff. Despite the poor weather conditions all the girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Following this event a Football Festival of Fun for the Guides sections took place on Saturday 10 July. Divisions from across Staffordshire met again at Stone Dominoes FC for further football skills work and matches. This event, involving almost 80 Guides, was aimed at girls interested in developing their skills and possibly looking to join local clubs.
As part of the day Stone Dominoes played Port Vale in a friendly match. The local Scout band entertained the crowds and the girls taking part in the festival formed a tunnel to welcome the players onto the pitch.
All of the girls attending had a fantastic day and received a certificate and FA Girls Get Involved pack. It is hoped this event could now become an annual event for Girlguiding divisions across Staffordshire.
Girls and Women’s Football Development Officer for Staffordshire FA, Claire Hermon said “Both events were a great success, despite the weather! It was fantastic to work on this project with Stone Dominoes FC and Girlguiding Staffordshire.
"We have now established a partnership which can provide football for Girlguiding divisions across Staffordshire for the future”.
