Sweden 1-1 England (England win 5-4 on penalties)
England Women's U21s drew their second game of the Nordic Cup 1-1 against Sweden before winning a penalty shoot-out 5-4.
The eight team tournament uses penalty shoot-outs at the end of the group stages, should teams be level on points and goal difference after their three games.
Brent Hills made made six changes to the eleven that beat Finland 3-2 on Sunday, with Laura Bassett again captaining the side.
The first half of the match was played in roasting temperatures. England bossed the opening 25 minutes with Lianne Sanderson at the heart of The Three Lions' best moments, but for all their possession, the half-time scoreline remained goalless.
The two sides have got to know each other well over the last two seasons and it was always likely that a moment of magic would be needed to break the deadlock.
The prognosis proved correct ten minutes into the second half as Anita Asante gave England the lead with a stunning volley. After a Michelle Hickmott throw-in, Lianne Sanderson indulged in some close ball juggling that had the small crowd in Sola, Norway purring.
After teasing the Swedish backline, the Arsenal youngster teed-up her Arsenal team-mate, and from 12 yards, Asante cracked home the sweetest of volleys.
With just fifteen minutes remaining, Sweden got an equaliser that was against the run of play, stabbing home after The Three Lions failed to clear a corner.
With three minutes remaining, Steph Houghton, on as a second-half substitute came agonisingly close to sealing the win, but her shot was pushed just past the post, taking the game into a penalty shoot-out.
The first three penalties were converted, including ones by Kelly McDougall and Jodie Taylor to give England a 2-1 lead. When Sweden missed their second penalty, the advantage momentarily was with England, but Steph Houghton then hit her spot-kick wide.
The next five penalties were all scored, with Michelle Evans and Laura Bassett on target, which then sent the shoot-out into sudden death.
Jill Scott kept her composure to score, leaving Siobhan Chamberlain to be the hero of the hour as her save gave England a 5-4 shoot-out victory that could determine the play-off placings, with Germany next up for England this Thursday.
The Germans beat Finland 3-0 in the other game in England's group, meaning the victor will play in the Final on Saturday.
