England's U19s started their qualification bid for the UEFA U19 Championship Finals later this year in Iceland with a 3-0 victory.

Their Second Round Qualifying group is being staged in Austria, and it was the hosts who were vanquished, despite a battling display.

Having failed to take advantage of some early openings, England's opener arrived following a free-kick from Birmingham City Heather Scheuber (pictured). Arsenal's Danielle Buet flicked the ball on and Chelsea's prolific young striker Ellen White was on hand to drill the ball home.

With the game still in the balance and knowing Ukraine and the Czech Republic had already drawn 1-1, the half-time interval enabled England to reflect on their missed chances and review the tactics for the second half.

Knowing the strong and physical Austrian side would push hard early in the second half, putting pressure on the England squad, the young Lions weathered the storm.

Settling the nerves, Birmingham City's Becky Hall cut in from the left wing and fired her shot into the top corner to give the 'keeper no chance, extending the lead, but still Austria were not out of it.

Danielle Hill made a great save but England continued to grow stronger, retaining possession and sealed the victory when Lincoln City substitute Jade Moore created a chance for Hall to slot the ball home.

Head Coach Mo Marley said to TheFA.com: "We did a professional job. After the first games played, England are top of the table and we're delighted to have made a good start to the tournament. To stay at the top, we need to raise our standards and play to the best of our ability, and not become complacent."

England are next in action when they take on Ukraine tomorrow evening, followed by the Czech Republic on Sunday afternoon.
