A tireless and concentrated defender who has become a mainstay at the back for England with some excellent performances through England's World Cup qualification.

While Alex is most at home at right back, she has featured in several positions and that was no different at the World Cup as she was employed in defence, midfield and attack.

Prior to the World Cup Alex hit the goal trail when she notched against Germany, USA and Russia to take her tally to an impressive six goals.

After suffering a back injury in the opener against Japan, Alex used the healing powers of Yolanda the Panda to make it back for the second game with Germany.

Alex started her club career at Arsenal, the club she supported as a child, but moved to Birmingham City in 2004.

A regular in the starting line-up where she has gained experience and confidence, she has played in attack, midfield and defence, where she was spotted playing at right-back by Hope Powell in September 2004 against Everton.

Alex is a powerful force on the right flank, is very strong in the tackle and has great stamina. Alex helped Birmingham finish fourth in The FA Nationwide Premier League and featured in all three of England's Euro 2005 games.

That summer she returned to Arsenal along with Rachel Yankey, and notched her first England goals in the record 13-0 away win against Hungary in October.
