A composed presence as the last line of England's defence, Rachel Brown has grown in stature and experience in recent years.

In April she was selected to be part of the FIFA All-star team that played an exhibition against World Cup hosts China, where she was able to train with Norwegian legend Bente Norby.

In China Rachel was once more an imposing presence as England sought to show the world what they could do, and her dramatic save from Kerstin Garefrekes just minutes from the end of England's clash with Germany proved a pivotal moment for Hope Powell's team in getting out of Group A and into the quarters.

In her early career Rachel earned a football scholarship in the United States where she played for the University of Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh Panthers). Rachel was named Goalkeeper of the Year for the Eastern Conference every year and also holds the University record for the least goals conceded in a season.

Another of Rachel’s earlier career highlights saw her take part in the 1996 FA Women’s Cup Final at 15 years old with Liverpool.
