England defender Alex Scott believes that a relaxed frame of mind and sheer hard work saw the Three Lions come from behind to qualify for Euro 2009 in a thrilling final game in Spain.

The Arsenal full-back who played in all eight of the qualifiers says that England's composure in front of goal after the break was the main reason behind their comeback.

"It feels amazing," Scott told TheFA.com. "We did it the hard way but it shows that we've got the determination and we got there in the end.

"We went in at half-time and we knew that our fitness levels were good. We just needed to believe in ourselves a bit more and relax to take our opportunities - that's what we said at half-time.

"Both Kaz and Kel took their chances and that's what we said at half-time; we just need to be more clinical in front of goal. We had more shooting opportunities than Spain in the first-half and we just needed to be clinical."

Looking ahead to next August and the European Championship finals, Scott admits that all the players are eager to test themselves against the best teams in Europe.

"I can't wait! I'm just shattered at the moment, we left everything on the pitch in the second-half. Over the 90 minutes we showed what we're capable of, Hope says the preparation starts now and we can't wait for Finland."
