Leeds United and England goalkeeper Carly Telford is relishing the chance to compete for the England number one spot as she gains more and more experience.

Telford has played just 45 minutes so far for the senio team, but having been part of the squad that traveled to China for the World Cup she is now itching for more action.

With Rachel Brown recovering from knee surgery, Siobhan Chamberlain has taken over between the posts so far this year and that has seen Telford become number two in the pecking order - something she has greatly enjoyed.

"The first game after the World Cup I wasn't involved because the squad size was reduced to 20 for UEFA Qualifiers," Telford explained.

"I was disappointed but Hope explained when I came back in that she wanted to include me but couldn't because of the numbers situation.

"I kept an open mind about what could happen this season, the World Cup was such a great experience for me and I've stayed positive about my chances this time around.

"It's a great opportunity for me to be number two, to be part of the warm up and sit on the bench.

"I'm really keen to prove myself in training, work as hard as I can and take any chances that come my way.

"It's good for Siobhan as she's getting the experience of being the number one, and I'm really pleased for her.

"I get the experience of what Siobhan has been doing when Brownie has been there.

"Rather than being nervous about it, I'm keen to get as many chances as possible."

Looking back on England's last encounter, Telford believes that the Three Lions can acquit themselves better.

"Our performance wasn't that great, but we got the three points which is the main thing.

"Hope made it clear to us that she wasn't pleased with the performance and everyone will need to raise their game against Czech Republic.

"They seem to be our main challengers and lookl like they're keen to qualify for the finals.
