England made it a winning conclusion to 2007 as they overcame Spain at Shrewsbury, and now you can watch the highlights from the Euro 2009 qualifier that saw Karen Carney's strike earn a hard-fought victory.

Carney showed a cool head to give England a slim victory, although the margin did not reflect the dominance of the home side as they created numerous chances against a youthful, yet composed, Spanish side.

Carney revealed after the game that the players could not be frustrated after going more than an hour without scoring as Spain held their own.

"It wasn't frustration because Spain were a really good team to be fair. If we had hit the woodwork a few times and had chance after chance then we might be looking back with frustration.

"But they were a really good team and they always looked like they could get a goal as well. It was all about keeping our discipline and taking any chances that came our way, because we didn't really have as many as we would normally.

"Thankfully we got the three points and we can all go and enjoy our Christmas."

Carney is also developing the knack of scoring vital goals, as reaches six for her country and a significant number of them have been winning goals.

"It's nice to score really, I haven't scored in quite a while so I was starting to get a little bit worried.

"I'm a forward, so it's important to score goals and provide chances for other players, and it was great to get on the scoresheet.

"With us winning 1-0 it made it even more special."
