Watch Hope Powell put her players through their paces as they prepare for the Euro 2009 Qualifier with Belarus at Walsall. |
It's been quite a year for Jill Scott. Helping Everton make it into Europe for the first time in their history with a late surge to second place, Scott has also earned eleven caps for her country including an incredible rise to prominence at the World Cup in China.
Making her first competitive start against Germany, in the only match of the tournament that the eventual winners failed to win, scoring against Argentina in a 6-1 win and gaining the invaluable experience of playing almost 300 minutes in World Cup football.
"I'm so proud of what we achieved," Jill said. "Looking back on it now, it was such a big opportunity and probably the biggest experience of my life.
"It was just great to be so involved, when I went away I wasn't expecting to play that much, I had the mindset that if I got ten minutes or so I would be delighted.
"It was absolutely amazing to be involved in all the games and obviously getting to the quarter finals was fantastic, and a great achievement as well.
"I think everyone will be a bit disappointed by the scoreline against America, but I think if you look at the overall tournament a lot of people underestimated us and thought we wouldn't even get out of the group stages. So we can look back and be proud of reaching the quarter finals and we're bridging that gap with the big nations in women's football.
"Obviously Germany went on to win the competition and we were the only team they didn't beat, so I think that's an achievement in itself."
On a personal level, to score her first goal for England at the World Cup finals was also a special moment.
"Yeah that was great, although people keep asking us if I meant it or not. It was more of a tackle, but I don't mind they all count don't they?"
