After earning her 50th cap in the 1-1 draw away to France and helping Arsenal reach the semi finals of the UEFA Women's Cup, Katie has withdrawn through illness.

The call-up for Houghton follows an impressive last twelve months which has seen her earn praise from England U19s Head Coach Mo Marley, and U21s Head Coach Brent Hills.

After starring in the U19s' 3-0 victory over Sweden in June, Mo told TheFA.com after seeing the youngster score an outstanding goal, playing in an unaccustomed left-back role: "Steph showed her ability and can play comfortably in any position," she said. "She is technically very gifted and a big leader."

Her form for the U19s saw Steph make the step up to the U21 squad for the Nordic Cup in July, and despite losing 3-2 to Germany, her performance brought praise from Brent.

"Our best two players tonight were two of the youngest; Steph Houghton and Fern Whelan" said Brent.

"A number of girls and was not overawed either, so although we are all disappointed tonight, the girls have to use the experience and finish strong in our final game on Saturday afternoon."
