France v England
World Cup Qualifier
Saturday 30 September 2006
Stade de la Route Lorient, Rennes FC

Eni Aluko admits the thought of playing at next year's World Cup leaves her lost for words.

"It's indescribable," said the Charlton and England striker who added that she will be an emotional wreck should her World Cup dream be realised.

"I would cry tears of joy if we got through. It would mean the world to me, it would change my life," she said.

Eni and the rest of her England team-mates are so close to China 2007 they could be forgiven for already booking a ticket to walk on the Great Wall.

Top of their qualification group after six wins and a draw, England need just a draw from their final game against France on 30 September to be certain of reaching the World Cup.

France, six points behind England, need to win their game in hand against Austria next Saturday and then beat England to steal the qualifying spot from under the noses of Eni and her team-mates.

Unsurprisingly, the 19 year old law student knows the importance of the fixture in Rennes.

"It’s the biggest game of everyone’s lives," she added. "It’s huge. A year after the Euros we have seen the impact a big tournament has had on women’s football in England. People are sitting up and taking notice. England playing at the World Cup would be massive for football in this country."

When England met France at Blackburn in March, both teams had chances to win a game which eventually ended goalless. A similar result will see England through, although Eni thinks England will be better served going for a win.

"The best thing we can do is try and win the game," she insisted. "We have to go into the game thinking a draw is not enough. Going for a draw could be risky. France are ranked higher than us and have some household names, but the pressure is on them. They will not be satisfied unless they are going to the World Cup."
