Hope Powell’s England team host Hungary at Southampton’s St Mary’s stadium tomorrow night hoping to take another step closer to China 2007.

Following a goalless draw with France in March and moral boosting win against Austria last month, the side will want to keep their fine run of form going.

Everton defender Lindsay Johnson started in the international against Austria last month as well as starting the match in Hungary last October.

She told TheFA.com: “I am hoping to start but at the moment there is a good battle going on between myself, Casey Stoney and Alex Scott. 

"It’s a good battle and such competition can only be good for the team. I felt I had a good game against Austria, but we shall see what happens.

"Confidence in the camp is high at the moment.  We beat Austria 4-0, which was a good result in the end.  We struggled to get early goals in that match because of the formation they played but we got the goals in the end.

"We are a confident team and we have been together for a good 18 months now.  We just can’t be complacent and we need to get a win to set us up for the Holland game.”

After scoring so many goals in the last match against their opponents, anticipation is high for another free scoring game.  But the Toffees defender warns that the Hungarians won’t be as easy this time round.

“First and foremost we have to get the three points. I don’t think we will get 13 goals against them this time but it'd be nice if we did.

“We have got to get through this game and get to the Holland match.  The Dutch are a really good side.  A lot of talk is about us and France, but Holland are just as tough if not tougher.

“Lets not forget they have beaten the French away and they play them again on Saturday in a game which will have a crucial bearing on the group.”

Tomorrow's game will also be the first time the side will play at Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium, something that makes Lindsay even more motivated to play in the game.

“It’s a really good ground and I think the pitch will be brilliant" said Linsdsay. "Even though it is a large stadium, it is one of those built-in grounds which is close to the pitch.  So we're all hoping there will be another great atmosphere too.”
