FIFA 2007 Women's World Cup qualifier
England v France
Sunday 26 March 2006
Blackburn Rovers FC, 7.05pm.
With less than a fortnight until Hope Powell's side play their next crucial World Cup qualifier against France, a big crowd is being targetted to give England some vocal support at Ewood Park.
A crowd of 14,695 saw England lose 2-1 Denmark at Ewood Park last June, whilst three days later, a phenomenal 25,694 watched Sweden narrowly beat England 1-0.
Last Thursday at Carrow Road, Norwich, a record crowd of 9,616 for a Women's International Friendly saw England complete their preparations for the France game with a 1-0 victory over Iceland, with the goal coming from Karen Carney.
Advance ticket sales for the game on 26 March, which also happens to be Mothering Sunday, have already reached over 6,000.
Blackburn Rovers FC, The FA and local community groups are organising a range of events on match day in the build-up to the 7.05pm kick-off, and below are details of just two such events.
Mums and daughters are invited to take part in a soccer skills challenge at the BRIC at Ewood Park.
If your mum has got what it takes, you are invited to go to the ground between 11am and 1pm to take part in a series of soccer challenges, which are all free.
There will be prizes for the best Mum and the best daughter donated by the England women’s team; a signed shirt and a ball and a special Mother’s Day Mum’s prize too.
Each Mother and Daughter team will also qualify for up to four free tickets for the England v France game that evening.
In the afternoon, between 2.30-5.00pm at St Bede's College in Blackburn, an Asian Women's Football Tournament will be hosted, with team entries free, and funded by The FA.
Changing facilities, parking and a crèche (must pre book) are all available and the event will be staffed by females.
The event is aimed at encouraging new partcipants from the Asian community to try their skills, and all participants will be provided with complimentary tickets to the game that evening.
