The former Fulham and Birmingham City keeper made her international debut against Holland last September but subsequently failed to make the squad for the Women’s Euro 2005.

She then impressed at July’s Nordic Under-21 Championship, however, and after making a fine start to the 2005-06 season with her new club she has been drafted back into the senior national squad for the start of the World Cup qualifying campaign.

“Getting back into the squad has helped make it a great start to the season for me,” said Chamberlain, who celebrated her 22nd birthday last week.

“I was on stand-by for last week’s England training camp but then got called up, and I really enjoyed it and felt I did okay.

“I’ve also been happy with my form for Bristol Academy and that must have been a factor in my England selection.

“I didn’t get much first team football at Birmingham last season, and it was a similar story at Fulham the year before.

“So when the chance came to join Bristol I jumped at it, particularly after talking to the club and seeing that they really want to go places.

“Playing regular first team football is also the best way to keep myself in the England picture, and hopefully I can now establish myself as part of the senior squad.”

Chamberlain will fly out to Austria for the September 1st World Cup qualifier as number two to Everton keeper Rachel Brown in the 20-player squad.

But the student at the FA’s Loughborough University-based National Player Development Centre is determined to make her mark.

“Whether you’re seen as first or second choice,” said Chamberlain, “you have to prepare for matches with the frame of mind that you’re ready to play.

“That’s how I’ll be thinking next week and hopefully I’ll be celebrating a win with the girls afterwards no matter what the starting line-up.

“I don’t know much about Austria, but they’re below us in the world rankings and we have to aim to win not just this game but every group match we’re involved in.

“With only one team in the group qualifying for the World Cup we have to take all the points we can to make sure we reach China 2007.”
