The Southern Amateur League (SAL) clinched a place in the Final of the FA Carlsberg National League System Cup with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over the Amateur Football Combination (AFC) at a rainswept Dulwich Hamlet.

After a tight and even opening half-hour, the SAL took the lead in the 37th minute when Alex Ewin controlled a cross from Osman Akkaya, neatly side- stepped his marker before crashing home a shot from 10 yards out.

The SAL continued to control the game as half-time approached with AFC unable to break down a strong defence.

The SAL increased their lead on the hour mark with Ewin got on the score sheet with Akkaya again the provider. This time his cross was headed home at the near post by the impressive striker.

The AFC were struggling to make any impact and their only real effort of note came on 64 minutes when Innis Pirrie fired a long-range shot over the bar.

The SAL missed a golden opportunity to put the result beyond doubt, when on 77 minutes Nick Stavri blazed over the bar from two yards with the goal at his mercy.

The final whistle was greeted with joy by the SAL who were the better side throughout and deserved to take their place in the Final where they will meet either the holders, the Isle of Man League, or the Midland Combination who meet at The Bowl in Douglas next Saturday.
