England youth international Daniel Sturridge gave another glimpse of his undoubted talent to ensure Manchester City edged past Bristol City after a thrilling encounter at Ashton Gate.
The striker, who has netted twice for his club's first team this season, showed 4,233 fans in the West Country just why he is rated so highly.
With a see-saw Fifth Round tie intriguingly poised at 2-2, Sturridge extinguished the Robins' dreams of an upset with a fine brace.
His first came in the 73rd minute when he raced down the right flank before wriggling into the box and firing into the far corner.
But the teenager saved his best for last. Just minutes after giving his side the lead, he terminated the contest with a moment of sheer brilliance, chipping the ball over a defender's head before volleying into the corner of the net.
City's players were distraught at the end - a stark contrast to earlier in the game when they were 2-1 ahead.
After David Ball had given the visitors a 14th minute lead, the Bristol side gallantly responded and deservedly pulled level when Tristan Plummer picked out Marlon Jackson who slotted home.
The hosts had two more chances before easing ahead just after the break when Plummer was hauled down in the box and Robert Stambolziev squeezed his penalty past the visiting keeper.
But it wasn't to be for the home side as Ball equalised to set the stage for Sturridge.
