Liverpool got their defence of the Youth Cup underway with an emphatic 5-0 win at Wycombe Wanderers to send them through to the Fourth Round of the competition.
For a scoreline that suggests total domination, Hughie McAuley's Liverpool side came up against a Wycombe side determined to extend their 14-game unbeaten streak.
Liverpool could score only once in the first half - a 25th minute effort when David Amoo's lightening fast counter attack, following a Wycombe corner, caught the home team's defence off balance.
Amoo highlighted the extreme levels of difference between the two clubs; he was a high-profile signing from Millwall last summer and has long been tipped for great things.
Nonetheless, Wycombe created a number of good chances - all of which were well saved or narrowly missed the target.
Knowing they were the underdogs, the home side came out stronger after the break and prevented Liverpool from scoring again until after 65 minutes. It came following a mix- up in the Wanderers defence and allowed England Under-17 ace Nathan Eccleston to double Liverpool's lead.
It was one-way traffic after that, as Eccleston scored again and was joined on the scoresheet by Gary Mackay-Steven and Marvin Pourie.
Liverpool will now face either Burnley or Arsenal in the next round.
Other Premiership clubs joining them in the Fourth Round from Wednesday night's action include: Middlesbrough, who beat Cardiff 1-0; Aston Villa, 3-1 victors over Crewe Alexandra; Tottenham Hotspur, who won at Southampton; Reading, 1-0 winners at Northampton; Birmingham, who were 2-1 winners at Huddersfield Town and Manchester City, who scored five without reply against Millwall.
There was, however, a boost for Port Vale following their FA Cup exit at the hands of non-League Chasetown on Monday night. They beat Swansea 4-0 and will now play at either West Ham United or Bolton Wanderers.
Stoke City scored a victory over Premiership opposition, as they won a penalty shoot-out against Wigan Athletic after the sides were level one-all after extra-time. Leicester City also overcame top flight opposition in the form of a 1-0 victory against Blackburn Rovers.
Macclesfield have won a Fourth Round trip to Sunderland, thanks to their 3-2 win at Blackpool and Chester City are on their way to Tottenham after a 3-0 home win over York. Swindon Town will host Middlesbrough after beating Barnsley 2-1.
