Liverpool won The FA Youth Cup for the first time in ten years, emulating the class of Owen and Carragher, but they were given a tremendous battle by Manchester City.
Leading 3-0 after the first leg, a Daniel Sturridge inspired City fought back to within a goal of taking the game into extra-time.
Sturridge, a prolific forward for England U17s, curled in a stunning goal on 32 minutes to give his side a glimmer of an unlikely upset.
The City number ten, a nephew of former Derby forward Dean, drilled in a second early in the second half to give the large travelling support the jitters.
But it was Liverpool's night and they ran in ecstacy to their fans at the final whistle, arms aloft in celebration.
In a first half which took a while to get going, City began the arduous task of chipping away at Liverpool's 3-0 lead.
The hosts took the lead on the night with a wonderful strike. Receiving a square pass, Strurridge let fly from 25 yards, the ball curling into the top corner past the flailing Roberts.
City continued to press towards the end which housed thousands of Liverpool fans - many of whom will return to the city on Saturday to watch the senior side take on Chelsea.
Sturridge's strike partner Kelvin Etuhu was also a menace, laying off the ball to Karl Moore on the stroke of half-time but the City winger dragged his shot wide.
City's increasing dominance continued after the break and they were duly rewarded with a second goal on 56 minutes. Again it was Sturridge, with the freedom of Manchester, drilling low into the far corner after a free-kick was flicked on.
Liverpool Academy Director Steve Heighway, opting to preserve Liverpool's now slender lead, hauled off playmaker Adam Hammill in favour of the more defensive formation.
Hammill looked rather non-plussed, shaking his head as he walked towards the dug-out before pulling his shirt over his head in disappointment.
Etuhu headed another chance wide while Liverpool had a penalty shout turned down moments later for handball.
Liverpool should have put the tie to bed 12 minutes from the end when Miki Roque headed Paul Anderson's corner just over the bar.
At the other end, City captain Micah Richards, who hit the headlines with an FA Cup goal against Aston Villa this season, almost conjured up a magical equaliser. With his back to goal, he chested the ball down before exploding with an overhead kick which went just wide.
