Liverpool have a history of prolific forwards - watch young striker Craig Lindfield bag a hat-trick in the demolition of Carlisle. |
Steve Heighway's young Liverpool side breezed into this season's FA Youth Cup semi-finals with a crushing 6-0 win against Carlisle United at Anfield on Monday night.
A Craig Lindfield hat-trick and further goals from Charlie Barnett, Adam Hamill and Michael Nardiello took the Reds through in convincing fashion to a last-four meeting with Southampton, last season's losing finalists.
Cheered on by a decent-sized crowd on the famous Kop, Liverpool put the visitors to the sword in the first half, scoring three times in one 16-minute spell.
They were ahead on 20 minutes, Lindfield finishing with a confident strike past Carlisle 'keeper Bradley from inside the box. Barnett, menacingly breaking forward from midfield, made it two with a fierce shot that flew past Bradley.
Six minutes later it was 3-0 as Lindfield headed Barnett's cross powerfully home.
The visitors had a more encouraging period after half-time but normal service was quickly resumed with Lindfield completing his hat-trick from close range in front of the Kop - a special moment for the youngster.
Then Bradley made a good save to deny Lindfield his fourth before Hamill netted with a long dipping shot from 45 yards that first-teamer Xabi Alonso would have been proud of.
After Lindfield had been substituted to a standing ovation, his replacement Nardiello ended the scoring with a fine run and shot.
