Tow Law Town manager Michael Vasey has vowed to lead his team out at Wembley in The FA Vase final in an attempt to banish his own personal nightmare.
Vasey was part of the Tow Law side that reached the final of the competition in 1998, but missed out on the big day after damaging medial knee ligaments in the quarter-finals.
Now, having seen his young charges book their place in the First Round Proper of the competition after a 2-1 win at Bottesford Town, Vasey is confident of laying his ghosts to rest come May.
"I was gutted to miss out and that's why I'm so anxious to get back and put it all to bed," said the Town manager.
"It was a fantastic weekend, a wonderful experience. To play at Wembley would have been like a dream but that's why I'm so determined to lead the boys to victory.
"It will be so hard to repeat the experience but we'll definitely give it our best shot.”
Town, previously best known for giving Chris Waddle his start in football, needed extra-time to see off their Scunthorpe based rivals last Saturday, with Gavin Mudd and Darren Hollingsworth the goalscoring heroes.
However, despite being taken to the wire by Bottesford, Vasey is happy with the way his newly-constructed side have started the season in the Northern League Division One.
"There have been a lot of changes over the summer,” he explained. “It's my first season in charge and we've brought in about 15 new players, so it's going to take them a while to gel.
"But it's been a positive start to the season. We dominated the game against Bottesford but just failed to score the goals to kill them off."
Now with his side firmly on the road to Wembley, Vasey has set his sights on the First Round Proper clash with Pickering Town on 6 October.
"I don't know a lot about Pickering but we're at home and we're a difficult side to beat on our own turf,” he added.
"The lads are playing really well and although it's a young squad we're playing with a lot of confidence and we'll give it our best shot."
