Twenty six sides went into Saturday’s FA Vase Third Round ties with cup glory on their minds. In an edgy day of football, there was little margin for error as the defences came out on top.
Five ties were settled by a solitary goal as the realisation of a trip to Wembley dawned on clubs up and down the country.
Poole Town progressed to the Fourth Round as the Dorset side edged past local rivals Cowes Sports with a 1-0 victory.
Shrivenham travelled to the south coast and were rewarded with a 2-1 victory over Moneyfields to book their place in the Fourth Round.
Despite a series of cautious-looking outcomes in this Third Round, the game between Studley and Gedling proved the exception to the rule.
The hosts sealed their place in the next round after they came out on top in a seven-goal thriller at The Beehive.
The honours were even in the tie between Merstham and VT, who battled out a 2-2 draw which will require a replay at the Vosper Thornycroft Sports Ground.
St Ives and Romford also shared a 1-1 draw and will have to replay their tie after the sides couldn’t be separated on Saturday.
Consett and Trafford had their tie postponed after the Steelmen’s pitch was deemed unplayable.
