Glossop North End marched thorough to the FA Vase First Round after defeating Nottinghamshire's Calverton Miners Welfare 4-1 away from home in the second qualifying round on Sunday.
Though the away side took a 2-0 lead into the interval, Calverton fought hard to make a game of it after the break, coming close to scoring a handful of times. But a third Glossop North goal, netted with just over half an hour remaining, was the nail in the coffin.
Midfielder Rick Whelan had opened the scoring at Hollinwood Lane after 12 minutes before his Rick Bailey doubled Glossop's lead from the penalty spot, four minutes before the break. Winger Sam Hind hit the third and centre forward Dave Hodges added a fourth with 20 minutes remaining.
Calverton's Craig Bolton snatched a late consolation goal, but Glossop manager Peter Hammond did not mind. "To get an away win in The Vase against a decent side like Calverton shows the character and ability of my players," he beamed.
"Hopefully we can go on and enjoy a bit of a run in the competition now, which would be a fantastic reward for all the hard work we're putting in."
Calverton manager John Daniel said: "I'm disappointed but we'll bounce back, I'm sure of that. In the end Glossop took the chances they created and they were the better side on the day. I wish them good luck in the next round."
Erith and Belvedere had four-goal hero Aiden Pursglove to thank for their record-equalling victory over Sidlesham of Sussex - a result that ensures their passage to the FA Vase First Round.
The Kent club became only the third team to score seven goals in a Vase tie so far this season but took nearly half an hour to score. Nick Smith's run beat Sidlesham's offside trap, allowing Pursglove in to slot calmly into the bottom corner.
Pursglove caught the visitors' defence napping again three minutes before the interval and he punished them by doubling his side's lead from close range.
By the 53rd minute Sidlesham were trailing 3-0 when Pursglove showed composure inside the box to complete his hat-trick. Smith added a fourth on 62 minutes before Pursglove netted his fourth from the penalty spot to make it 5-0 three minutes later.
Midfield duo Huseyin Budak and Joby Thorogood completed the rout on 67 minutes and 77 minutes respectively.
Club secretary Frank May said: "It feels great to be one step closer to playing at Wembley but to be honest we feel a bit sorry for Sidlesham. It was a very one-sided game."
"The FA Vase is a prestigious competition. We're pleased to progress and the financial incentives are there but it's the prestige and the magic that it brings that makes wins like this worthwhile."
