Curzon Ashton v Leamington
The FA Carlsberg Vase
Sixth Round Proper
Saturday 3 March 2007
£4,000 to each winning clubCurzon Ashton are bidding for a place in history this season as the first Manchester club to win The FA Vase.
Before they can dream of Final glory, however, they must first get past the daunting challenge of Leamington in the Quarter-Finals this Saturday.
Midland Alliance team Leamington hit Retford for five in the previous round, but Curzon manager Gary Lowe is confident his own strike force of Stephen Moore and Michael Norton - who between them boast a jaw-dropping 81 goals in all competitions this season - have just what it takes to earn his side a place in the last four.
"I'm not too sure how many we've scored in The Vase this year, but we've enjoyed some big results," said Lowe.
"It's a fantastic feeling to go into games knowing that one of my strikers will score. They've been fantastic; the stats will tell you everything.
"They've got 81 goals between them this season and there's been lots of interest in them.
"They're both fantastic players at this level and fortunately we've tied them both down to a long contract and they will be a big part of what we're hoping to achieve at the club."
And Lowe has one final warning for Leamington, stating that his squad, and the club's fans, are more than ready for Saturday's big encounter.
Although they will make their opponents feel very welcome, they are looking to make home advantage count.
"I've had Leamington watched a couple of times and I know a bit about them," added Lowe.
"They're a fantastic side and they have already told us they will be bringing a big crowd to the game, so we're expecting a pretty big gate."
