The FA Carlsberg Vase
Fifth Round Proper
Saturday 17 February 2007
£2,000 to each winning club

Leamington crushed Retford United 5-1 to reach the Quarter Finals of the FA Vase in front of a record crowd.

The New Windmill Ground was packed with 1,380 fans, who saw Ben Mackey and David Pearson both score braces.

Mackey opened the scoring after half-an-hour following a sensational run and cross from Jamie Towers, who had beaten four defenders.

Mackey doubled the lead five minutes into the second-half as Leamington dominated their opponents from Nottinghamshire.

Pearson scored with his first touch on 53 minutes and completed the rout after Jon Adams had grabbed a fourth goal.

Adam Kerley scored a late consolation for Retford, but it was an emphatic Leamington who collected £2,000 and a Quarter-Final place.

Leamington will now make the trip to Curzon Ashton, who were even more dominant, winning 5-0 at Causeway United.

Michael Norton and Steven Moore both scored twice in the first-half, Moore also seeing his penalty saved.

Chris Holt added a fifth in the second half, and Norton almost had a hat-trick when his spectacular 45-yard lob cannoned off the crossbar.

In the day’s other Fifth Round game, Bideford United beat VCD Athletic 3-2 to set up a Quarter-Final tie – and a long journey from Devon - with Billingham Synthonia in the north east.
