The FA Vase in partnership with Carlsberg
First Qualifying Round
9 September 2006
Winning club receives £500
There were goals galore in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Vase last weekend.
No fewer than eleven games featured six or more goals as defences buckled throughout the competition.
Biggest win of the day came at Raunds Town of the United Counties League. The 'Shopmates' beat Stansted FC by a thoroughly convincing 7-1 at Kiln Park to progress to the next round.
Another of the day's goalfests came at Riverside Park, the home of Barrow Town FC. The Riversiders struck a handsome six past hapless Greenwood Meadows to record the Leicester club's biggest win of the season.
Our featured game, Horden Colliery Welfare away to West Allotment Celtic, also produced six goals, but was altogether a tighter affair.
Horden had led 1-0 for much of the game but with time running out Celtic grabbed a vital equaliser. Extra time proved too much for Welfare as they conceded a further three goals and had a man sent off as they lost 4-2.
Fairford Town and Cullompton Rangers required penalties to decide a winner after finishing 4-4 at the end of extra time. Town held their nerve to go through 4-3 in the shoot-out.
The day's best win on the road saw Coleshill Town sweep aside Stavely Miners Welfare 5-0 at Inkershall Road.
